Vlog: Foreign Foods Episode 1

Foreign Foods - Episode 1 from Persnickety on Vimeo.

Note that I am fully fledged sick and thus puffy and paler than normal. I also apologise for the volume of the slurp-age...it surprised me as much as it surprised you. Mind you that second bite was a vegetable of much liquid so normally I am not that loud when eating.
Yakitori -
... grilled chicken, is a Japanese type of skewered chicken.
It is made from several bite-sized pieces of chicken meat, or chicken offal, skewered on a bamboo skewer and barbecued, usually over charcoal. One of the most popular kind which is prepared with chicken thighs and leek.

Gyoza -
...typically consist of a ground meat and/or vegetable filling wrapped into a thinly rolled piece of dough, which is then sealed by pressing the edges together or by crimping.

I would totally scarf both of these dishes up, no problem.

And where's the fun without the noise?

Love it. I had some gyoza on Saturday for lunch! I'm so glad you love it too! I like to dip mine in a special soy sauce-ish sort of sauce. I forget the name. Delectable.

I like chicken yakitori but refuse to eat some of the other variations. If you're feeling adventurous though you should try chicken skin, or cartilage, or any of the variety of internal organs available grilled on a stick!

BTW, did you get my reply, albeit not terribly helpful, to your email about book sources in Japan?

Agh! I think those foods are totally not for me! It's weird, how I am totally obsessed with Japan and yet most Japanese food kind of disgusts me. . .

Yum Gyozas! Especially well boiled then lightly fried - not deep fried!

Just had some great Japanese in Waikiki at Jinroku (restaurant which originates in Japan, Tokyo, I think). Now you need to try Okonimiyaki, Takayaki and Negi Yaki dishes too. Mmmm.
